I’m a fan of the series like many Manila yuppies are. When it was still on-air five years ago, I was still in college and I religiously watched it with Ate Tin – even the Saturday night re-runs. Everybody wanted to be like them: fierce, independent and fabulous. That’s why when I heard a movie was in the-making, I swore I’d watch it.

The week was filled with endless meetings, overlapping tasks and many other things that’s why I totally forgot that today is its first weekend. Piglet and I planned to watch it Friday night because he has work on Saturdays but I only remembered that last Thursday. When I logged in to SureSeats, all the good seats on the reasonable hours have been taken except for the last full show at 10:50PM. I took it nonetheless.
Sadly, shit happened. Piglet backed-out late yesterday afternoon because he wasn’t feeling well. But I did not want to cancel my night because if I did, I would never had another chance to watch it and I’d be very pissed off. So I called people up but it seemed that everyone had left me that time. Nobody was available. It sucked and I felt like a loser who had no friends. I was determined, though. I cancelled Piglet’s seat and decided to go alone.
There was a lot of people in Greenbelt last night. Naturally so. It was Friday, pay-day and past 10PM so the bars were already banging. They close early around 2AM (which I hate about it, by the way) so people had to make the most of their time. I stopped by Gonuts to take a little snack and then went out for a smoke. I still had 30 free minutes before the movie started but I wanted to get in early so there wouldn’t be much crowd yet when I look for my seat. I did not want anybody to recognize me and see that I’d be watching the movie alone. It was a super popular romantic-comedy film for goodness’ sake and it was supposed to be watched with a friend at least! So I bought a lemonade and made my way to the door 15 minutes early. When I entered… Perfect. It wasn’t even half-full yet. Five minutes before the movie started, people poured in and I never felt more alone. Haha! Some groups even occupied the entire row and I was there with a vacant seat beside me. Obvious na ni-indian ng kasama.

The theme song played and the house errupted to woohoos and claps! I felt excited hearing Fergie’s song “Labels or Love” whose backbone is the Sex and the City theme song. The best part of the intro was when, one by one, we finally saw all four of them together again for the first time. Heavenly! I am not a movie critic (and yes, I am biased) but I don’t really know why they gave it a bad review. It was beautiful. I also did not see those boom mics hanging in any of the scenes like what the rumors say. For fanatics, you won’t be disappointed because it’s 2.5 hours long. I was completely happy with it. Funny and the essence of the series was still there. I just don’t know how Samantha managed to travel from LA to New York so often.
I still got a movie hangover that’s why I searched for this song “All Dressed Up In Love” by Jennifer Hudson, who played Louis – Carrie’s assistant in the movie. Very nice song to use while turning the screen black. It really gave the movie a happy ending. And darn! Whatta voice!
